Adopt Pinecone

Belgian Malinois/Mix

***The puppies will remain in their foster home until they have been matched with their perfect family. If you are interested in adopting please note: the puppies will NOT be available for viewing at the shelter before adoption as they will be remaining in their foster homes until they are spayed/neutered. We are currently accepting applications in person only at 245 Dartnall Road during adoption hours. Please understand that we anticipate that we will be receiving many applications but will be looking for specific homes for these pups. ***Pinecone would do best in a home with children 10 years and older. He will require a lot of socialization to be good with other dogs as an adult. This litter of puppies were very nervous of people when they arrived at the shelter, they are looking for experienced homes who can boost their confidence. Belgian Malinois are a highly intelligent and extremely energetic breed. These dogs are a lot of work and can be hours and hours of fun and entertainment. This is not an easy breed to own and Malinois are frequently used as working (police, military) dogs because of their drive. Malinois generally do very well in flyball, agility and obedience. They have seemingly boundless energy and wouldn't be a good match for anyone looking for a laid-back dog. These dogs are built for endurance and a leisurely walk twice a day will not sufficiently drain their physical and mental energy. Their high intelligence lends itself to problem solving which if not properly directed, can lead to trouble. Because of their energy requirements these dogs are not well suited to apartment or townhouse living. Malinois can be suspicious of strangers and protective of their home and family. Socializing with a wide range of people and positive experiences is vital to their development. Crate training is also advised to keep him safe and to assist with housebreaking. As with any dog, rules and structure are a must. Pinecone will make a wonderful companion for adopters with lots of love to offer him. Supervision around children and other pets is a must.
