The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA adopts measures to protect the health and safety of volunteers, staff, the public and animals at risk.

Hamilton, ON (March 16th, 2020) As of March 17, the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA (HBSPCA) is open to clients by appointment only, public activities and events are suspended through to the end of April, and all safety precautions for staff and people on site are fully implemented. Safe access to limited services will be sustained until available people, resources and supplies are no longer available and/or in the event the community situation changes.

“Our people  – staff and volunteers – are our priority”, says Marion Emo, CEO. “Protected and healthy people make service to community possible. We are watching the COVID-19 situation closely. At this time, we are deeply grateful for the support of our supporters and donors, and we look forward to restoring our clinics, classes and events when safe to do so.”

The need for compassionate care for animals – for instance those animals whose pet parents may be hospitalized – is being monitored in partnership with other organizations in the event resources need to be deployed.  Adoptions and urgent surrenders are for the time being by appointment only.  Intake for scheduled surgeries will be managed to ensure distancing.  All clients with appointments will be screened to ensure they are healthy to be on site.
