Summer Camp

Make this a summer to remember!

Sign-up for summer camp at the HBSPCA and you’ll get to play animal-themed games, meet animal experts and get crafty. Discover how to care for animals, how to properly handle them and why it is so important to respect our animal friends! Summer camp runs for seven weeks in 2015; you can attend for one week, two weeks… or more!

While there is some touch and petting time with small critters, direct contact with the animals at the shelter is minimal.

At the HBSPCA, campers are the most important part of camp. To ensure our campers stay safe and have fun, we hire experienced and caring counsellors who possess:

  • CPR and Standard First Aid qualifications
  • Health and safety orientation
  • Behaviour Management Training (includes bullying and ages and stages)
  • Experience working with children

The HBSPCA Summer Camp maintains a 1 to 10 counsellor to camper ratio. Our team is made up of:

  • 1 Manager of Humane Education
  • 1 Summer Camp Supervisor
  • 3 Summer Camp Counsellors
  • 1 Arts and Crafts Coordinator
  • 5 volunteer Jr. Counselors (each week)

March Break Camp

The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA March Break Camp teaches children about the importance of respect, kindness, and compassion for all living things.

We offer fun and informative presentations about proper pet care, pet safety, how to stay safe around animals, owner responsibility, and animal knowledge of many kinds. The children learn and have fun through periods of hands on socialization with small animals, games, activities, crafts, and contests.

Special guest speakers come in to talk to the children about their area of expertise. There will be time every day for the kids to interact with animals, but please be advised that children will not work with animals all day long.
