Hot Cars Kill Pets

There are no good reasons to leave a pet unattended in a vehicle

As the weather gets warmer, every year without fail, the HBSPCA receives countless calls regarding pets left unattended in vehicles. We’ve heard all the excuses – “I parked in the shade”, “I left the windows cracked”, “I was only gone a few minutes”, “I left a bowl of water”.

Parked in the summer heat, cars act as an oven and the temperatures inside can reach a deadly point very quickly. Even with the windows rolled down, pets can overheat in a matter of minutes.

If your car will be unattended for any period of time, leave your pet at home. There are no good reasons to leave a pet unattended in a vehicle.

If you see an animal unattended in a vehicle, report it – it could save a life: call (905) 574-7722 ext. 401, or 911
