Off Leash Park
The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA is proud to offer the people and pups of our community the use of our off-leash park at 245 Dartnall Road in Hamilton. Our park is actually two separate parks: the top, 1-hectre area is privately owned by the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA, while the natural 2-hectre area below is owned by the City of Hamilton. Our park is open daily but closes between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm each day so our volunteers can exercise our shelter dogs.
Though our park is privately owned, the area is governed by City of Hamilton by-laws. Please ensure you and your pet are abiding by the rules and regulations below upon visiting the HBSPCA Off-Leash Park:
- Dogs must be kept on leash until the off-leash area has been entered.
- Dogs must be under voice control and are not allowed to disturb or chase people, or to destory, dig up, or disturb flower beds, lawns, bushes or trees.
- Poop n' scoop is mandatory. All individuals must clean up after their dogs.
- Dogs must be wearing up-to-date rabies and dog license tags.
- Female dogs in heat and sick dogs are not permitted in the off-leash park.
- Aggressive dogs are not permitted in the off-leash park. If a dog begins acting aggressively towards others (both people and other dogs), it must be leased immediately and removed from the site.
- No dog may be in the park without an adult human attendant at all times.
- No more than two dogs may be brought into the park by a single individual at the same time.
- Glass containers, alcohol and human foods are not permitted in the park.
- Rawhide chews, dog toys and dog treats and food are not permitted in the park.
- Pinch, prong and spike collars are not permitted in the park.
- All children must be supervised by an adult at all times while in the park.
- Professional dog trainers may not use the HBSPCA Off-Leash Park for the conduct of their business.
- Dog owners are subject to Ontario's Dog Owner's Liability Act.
- Patrons will use the HBSPCA Off-Leash Park at their own risk. The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA is not liable for any illnesses or injuries incurred as a result of using the HBSPCA Off-Leash Park.
