The loss of a pet can be a very painful, emotional experience. The HBSPCA recognizes the impact that this inevitable phase of pet ownership can have—and we’re here to help you cope with the grief and remember your pet in meaningful, lasting ways.
Pet Bereavement Education and Support sessions are held on the second Tuesday of every month from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for help making it through these difficult days.
Julie Brooks has been a volunteer bereavement counsellor at the HBSPCA for 20 years. A trained bereavement counsellor, Julie well understands that grieving the loss of a pet is a complete parallel to human bereavement. And while the relationship is different, the love is very strong. At the Pet Bereavement Education and Support sessions, Julie sits down with people who have lost their animal companions. They share stories and tears, photographs and memories, and heal together with Julie’s skilled guidance.
Remember your pet with a beautiful plaque mounted on our “In Memorial” wall at the shelter. You will be supporting the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA while honouring the memory of your special friend. You can also honor the memory of your animal companion with any of the special mementos from Lasting Memorials, including paw prints, burial markers, urns and jewelry.
