Join our Committee
Commit to a committee
Help plan for the future of the HBSPCA and contribute to important initiatives by joining one of our committees. Most committees are a two-year commitment, with meetings that range in frequency from monthly to quarterly.
You don’t have to be a member of the HBSPCA to join a committee—some committees include members of the community.
Types of HBSPCA committees
- Goverance: Review governance issues within the HBSPCA Board of Directors. Final decisions on topics discussed are made by the Board of Directors and Board Chair.
- Operating: Review operating issues within the shelter. Final decisions on topics discussed are made by HBSPCA staff and CEO.
- Standing: Meets on a regular basis.
- Ad hoc: Meets when issues arise for the committee to discuss.

What’s the application process?
You’ll find full instructions on the application form, but here are the basics. Complete an application form and forward it, along with a copy of your resume, to our Executive Director. Your application will be reviewed and, if appropriate, you’ll be asked to come in for an interview with the Chair of the committee and HBSPCA staff.
There’s no deadline for applications—we keep all suitable applications on file for review when seats on committees become available. Committee members are chosen for skills and expertise that relate to specific committees—we can’t guarantee that everyone who applies will be accepted and you may have to be patient if there isn’t currently an opening on a committee that’s a good fit for you.
