Hello Friend of the Animals
March 16th seems such a long time ago. That is when the seriousness of the coronavirus became apparent. How times have changed for all of us in just 32 days. Each day brings new challenges, new insights, and at best, stories about living and working differently together for better days ahead.
Today we announced that the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA will care for pets belonging to persons hospitalized for treatment related to coronavirus. In these uncertain times, we think this is an essential and humane support for pet families.
Compassionate boarding is the right thing to do
Keeping people and pets together means caring for pet companions when pet parents are getting the help they need. Pets are family members, and compassionate boarding prevents pet surrender, relieves anxiety about care, and gives hope to pet parents. Over the last few years, we have worked closely with Zachary’s PAWS for Healing, and we know that pets are people’s best friends and sometimes only friend. Offering compassionate boarding for persons experiencing the coronavirus is the right thing to do.
The compassionate boarding program will provide up to 14 days of boarding at the HBSPCA on Dartnall Road and with Zachary’s PAWS for Healing depending on the space available and animals’ circumstances. Pets may include cats, dogs, small critters and small birds.
Our good friend and partner, Donna Jenkins, Founder of Zachary’s PAWS, reminds us that while we don’t know yet what the need will be, caring for pets when their pet parents fall ill is important. And with donor support, we’re ready and can be counted on to help patients’ pets.
And we are not doing it alone. PetSmart Charities® of Canada has made resources available to help board pets belonging to clients of our Community Veterinary Outreach Program. Royal Canin has donated food to help feed pet companions in care. Volunteers and staff will care for, socialise, play with and exercise all those in care.
