Course Details:
- Time: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM (arrive at least 10mins before the start time)
- Location: Hamilton/Burlington SPCA, 245 Dartnall Road, Hamilton, ON.
- There is free parking onsite, making it convenient for attendees with their own vehicles. Additionally, the location is accessible by the #22 city bus, ensuring that transportation is easy for everyone.
What You’ll Learn:
Our expert-led Pet First Aid Course, facilitated by Walks ‘N’ Wags, a trusted name in pet first aid education, covers a wide range of essential topics to ensure you are well-prepared to handle any pet emergency. Here’s what you can expect to learn:
- Emergency Steps: Learn the critical actions to take in emergency situations involving your pet. Understand how to react safely and efficiently to stabilize your pet for transportation.
- First Aid Kit Essentials: Discover what items you need to include in your pet first aid kit. We’ll guide you through the must-have supplies to ensure you’re always ready to handle emergencies.
- Head-to-Toe Assessment: Gain the skills to perform a thorough assessment of your pet’s condition from head to toe. Learn how to identify signs of distress, pain, or injury that may require immediate attention.
- Injury Types: Identify and address various types of injuries your pet might encounter. Whether it’s cuts, bites, fractures, or burns, you’ll learn how to manage these injuries effectively.
- CPR: Learn and practice the critical technique of performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation or CPR on pets. Learn the step-by-step process for administering CPR to dogs and cats, including how to check of signs of cardiac arrest and how to perform chest compressions and rescue breaths effectively.

We’re excited to offer a unique hands-on experience! Attendees are welcome to bring their social and dog-friendly dogs to practice the skills learned during the course. This practical application of knowledge will help reinforce your learning. Please note that the number of dogs allowed in the classroom is limited and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Owners must ensure their dogs are comfortable being handled and remain calm during the lesson. This is a fantastic opportunity to bond with your pet while learning how to care for them in emergencies.
Certificate & Manual Included:
At the end of the course, put your new knowledge to the test with a comprehensive exam to receive your Pet First Aid Certificate. Successfully passing this exam, you will officially earn your Pet First Aid Certificate. This certification is a valuable addition to your pet care skills, demonstrating your ability to handle pet emergencies effectively. This three-year certificate will serve as a testament to your commitment and readiness to care for pets in critical situations. Included with your certificate is an extensive user-friendly manual, complete with custom illustrations to assist you in a pet emergency.

- Age Requirement: The course is designed for attendees who are 12 years of age or older. This ensures that participants will gain a valuable understanding of the course material.
- Lunch Break: There will be a 30-minute break for lunch. Please bring your own lunch to enjoy during this break. There are a few restaurants within driving distance of the HBSPCA.
- Parking and Accessibility: The venue provides free parking for all attendees, making it easy to drive to the course. For those using public transportation, the location is accessible by the #22 HSR bus, allowing for convenient travel options.
