Feeding Feral Cats

Hamilton Burlington SPCA, in collaboration with the Hamilton Community Cat Network, is proud to present several Operation CatSnip Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) Certification Workshops throughout 2024.

Feeding feral cats is crucial, as many rely on humans for survival. The right food, proper placement, and resolution of feeding-related issues are essential for maintaining their health and managing the cat colonies efficiently.

Recommended Food

HBSPCA encourages feeders to offer the best affordable nutrition, balancing quality and budget. Typically, wet food is more nutritious than dry food, and food with more whole meat is preferable over food loaded with grains or by-products. For detailed insights and top recommended foods, refer to “Best Food for Feeding Feral Cats”.

Economical Choices

Chewy.com and Costco are noted for value, with Costco’s Kirkland brand striking a balance between cost and quality. Local pet stores may also donate damaged or recently expired food, aiding those who are feeding larger colonies.
