Dog Training: Level One

Are you ready to build a stronger bond with your dog and master essential training skills? Join us for the Level One K9 Principles Training course! This comprehensive 7-week program is designed to teach you the basics of dog training, including commands like sit, stay, and heel, while fostering a positive and rewarding relationship with your canine companion.

Eligibility:

1. Vaccinations

Just to make sure we are on the same page and there are no surprises, we follow the recommended vaccination protocol from the Ontario Veterinary College. All dogs entering a group class must be up to date with rabies, parvovirus, distemper, and Bordetella (kennel cough). Puppies not old enough to receive certain vaccines are exempted. This is for your dog's well-being and safety but also the safety and well-being of all the dogs entering the class including dogs that they live with. We will need to verify this before starting your class.

2. Age

All canine's must be at least 12 weeks of age or older to join this program.

What to Expect:

1. Weekly Training Sessions:

Over the course of 7 weeks, you and your dog will engage in hands-on training sessions, led by our experienced trainers. Each session will focus on building foundational skills that you can use in everyday situations, helping to improve your dog’s behavior and responsiveness.

2. Positive Reinforcement Techniques:

We believe in using positive reinforcement to guide your dog’s learning. You’ll be taught techniques that encourage good behavior through rewards, making the training experience enjoyable for both you and your dog.

3. Basic Commands and Beyond:

Throughout the course, you’ll cover essential commands like sit, stay, heel, and more. Our trainers will work with you to ensure your dog understands these commands, setting the stage for more advanced training down the road.

4. Interactive Learning Environment:

Each session is interactive and engaging, with opportunities to practice what you’ve learned alongside other dogs and their owners. This environment helps your dog get accustomed to working around distractions, improving their focus in different settings.

5. Strengthen Your Bond:

This course is about more than just commands—it’s about creating a deeper connection with your dog. The skills you learn together will build trust, improve communication, and make daily interactions smoother and more enjoyable.

Course Curriculum:

Focus & Attention

Focus is everything with dog training. We teach your dog that all fun happens with you regardless of distractions.

Place

Here they learn that their bed is the jackpot, and they will gladly go stay on it while you cook dinner, greet people at the door, watch tv, etc.

Relax

The “OFF” switch! This teaches your dog that when you stop/sit, they lie down beside you.

Recall

The LIFE SAVER and most important skill you can teach a dog. This will teach them they always come regardless of what is happening around them.

Sit

The first skill most people teach their dogs. We make it automatic, you stop they sit.

Down

The foundation for fantastic stays.

Oops I Dropped It

This is where your dog will learn that anything on the floor or available to grab is not theirs until given permission.

Door Control

Another lifesaver. We teach them to respect the doorway and not go through until invited. No need to chase them all over the neighbourhood if they learn to not charge out the front door.

Leash Respect

Say goodbye to your dog pulling you all over the neighbourhood. We will teach them that they can wander on their leash but never pull.

Stay

Staying in one location for a duration of time until released.

Heeling

Teaching a formal heel for those times you are in a busy area and need them to walk right beside you. You stop, they sit.

Visit Vet & Groomer

Let’s make scary Vet and Groomer visits a thing of the past. We will provide exercises and tips to help make them calmer in those places.

Socialization

Teaching them appropriate dog and human interaction. The world does not need to be a scary place for them.

Other

We will also cover Reactivity, Resource Guarding, Counter Surfing, How to greet people properly, chewing & much more to ensure your success with your dog at home.
